Sono richieste le conoscenze derivanti dal corso integrato di Fisiologia veterinaria e principi di etologia applicata in particolare sulle seguenti tematiche:
-processi fisiologici che operano per il mantenimento dell'omeostasi: controllo nervoso ed ormonale;
-stress: attivazione dell'asse ipotalamo-ipofisi-surrene.
Nozioni di anatomia e fisiologia riproduttiva del cane e del gatto.
Sono richieste conoscenze di base di allevamento e benessere animale.

Obiettivi formativi

L'insegnamento concorre alla realizzazione dell'OBIETTIVO FORMATIVO del corso di studi in PGAAS fornendo allo studente/ alla studentessa conoscenze su:

- principali moduli comportamentali, fasi di sviluppo comportamentale, modalità di comunicazione nel cane e nel gatto (MD Gestione del comportamento e benessere del cane e del gatto in allevamento);

-  comportamento riproduttivo in soggetti sani (MD Gestione del comportamento riproduttivo del cane e del gatto in allevamento);

gestione dell'allevamento canino e felino, corretta valutazione delle condizioni di allevamento del cane e delle caratteristiche strutturali ed organizzative che concorrono alla corretta gestione dell'allevamento, promuovendo il benessere degli animali in tutte le sue dimensioni, ed il rispetto per le disposizioni legislative in vigore; identificazione degli animali attraverso i sistemi elettronici previsti dalla legislazione in vigore; valutazione della condizione corporea del cane e della qualità delle feci degli animali; istruzioni per una corretta ricerca bibliografica.

The teaching contributes to the achievement of the EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE of the course of study in PGAAS by providing the student with knowledge on:

- the main behavior patterns, the development of the behavior (sensitive phases), the modalities of communication in dogs and cats. The student must have the critical ability necessary to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the field of animal behavior aimed at managing dog and cat breeding (MD Management of the beahviour and well being of the dog and the cat during the breeding)

- reproductive behavior in healthy subjects (MD Management of the reproductive beahviour of the dog and the cat during the breeding);

- management of canine and feline breeding, correct assessment of dog breeding conditions and of the structural and organizational characteristics that contribute to the correct management of the breeding, promoting the well-being of animals in all its dimensions, and compliance with legislative provisions in force; identification of animals through the electronic systems provided for by the legislation in force; assessment of the body condition of the dog and the quality of the faeces of the animals; instructions for a correct bibliographic research.

- pre-custody and foster care desk, adoption and habituation process; dog education and training for dogs involved in sports and social activities (MD Management of dog and cat breeding)

Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione:

Alla fine di questo corso integrato lo studente/la studentessa dovrà:

  • conoscere il meccanismo fisiologico dello stress e come la sua attivazione influisca sulla risposta comportamentale di cane e gatto
  • conoscere le peculiarità dello sviluppo comportamentale nelle due specie
  • conoscere le modalità di comunicazione delle due specie
  • conoscere i metodi principali per la corretta gestione riproduttiva dei soggetti adulti
  • identificare i principali locali utili per le corrette condizioni di stabulazione
  • identificare le principali fonti di stress negli ambienti di stabulazione
  • elencare le tecniche per il monitoraggio della condizione corporea e della qualità delle feci
  • conoscere i principi della legislazione italiana in materia di gestione dell'allevamento di cane e gatto
  • conoscere le principali discipline sportive e attività sociali per cui i cani possono essere addestrati


Capacità di applicare conoscenze e comprensione

Alla fine di questo insegnamento lo studente/la studentessa sarà in grado di:

applicare strategie per prevenire, eliminare o ridurre gli stimoli stressanti in condizione di stabulazione
pianificare gli spazi e gli arredi fondamentali per la gestione di un allevamento/rifugio/canile/gattile
valutare la condizione corporea e la qualità delle feci
identificare le azioni per migliorare la comunicazione intra ed inter-specifica
identificare gli indicatori diretti per la valutazione del benessere animale


Alla fine di questo insegnamento lo studente/la studentessa sarà in grado di:

  • sviluppare approfondimenti della materia in autonomia
  • identificare e sintetizzare concetti chiave
  • possedere una visione critica relativa a:
    - benessere animale
    - gestione di un impianto di stabulazione in cui siano presenti anche dei soggetti riproduttori e cuccioli

Abilità comunicative

Alla fine di questo insegnamento lo studente/la studetessa sarà in grado di:

  • esprimere in modo chiaro e appropriato la descrizione dei concetti relativi al benessere e gestione dell'allevamento/canile/rifugio
  • comunicare metodi e risultati della valutazione del rischio a personale scientifico e ad altri portatori di interessi
  • interagire con un team multidisciplinare
  • comunicare con diversi professionisti che lavorano nella catena alimentare
  • avere le competenze linguistiche appropriate

Capacità di apprendimento

Alla fine di questo insegnamento lo studente/la studentessa sarà in grado di:

  • reperire e comprendere le informazioni contenute in articoli scientifici/testi relativi a benessere animale, gestione e attività in cui sono coinvolti gli animali
  • leggere e comprendere le normative italiane in materia di gestione strutture, vendita/affido cuccioli

In addition to the theoretical knowledge, the student is expected to gain competence in addressing problems originating from safety of the matrices of animal origin during the primary production. Furthermore, the student must acquire the appropriate vocabulary.

Knowledge and understanding:

At the end of the course the student should:

  • know the principles of the relevant Italinan legislation on breeding management of cats and dogs
  • identify the main phases of behavior development
  • identify the communication signes of cats and dogs
  • know the physiological mechanism of stress and how it influences the behavior of the both species
  • know the better management of adults subjects to mate
  • identify spaces and forniture for the management of breeding
  • list the approaches to evaluate Body Condition Score and feces
  • know the main methods of qualitative and quantitative risk assessment
  • know the main activities in which dogs could be involved (sports...)

Applying knowledge and understanding

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

  • apply strategies to prevent, eliminate or reduce the risks of stressors
  • plan spaces and forniture related to the breeding management
  • evaluate BCS and the quality of feces
  • identify the actions in order to improve the animal communication (intra and inter- species)
  • identify animal-based welfare indicators and link the results to the management and the housing condition

Making judgment

At the end of this course the student will be able to:

  • autonomously deepen topics of the subject
  • identify and synthetize key concepts
  • have a critical view about animal welfare and breeding/kennel/shelter management

MD Gestione del comportamento e benessere del cane e del gatto in allevamento

Comportamento e benessere: processi fondamentali. Istinto e apprendimento: rinforzo e punizione, condizionamento classico e operante. Fasi di sviluppo (periodi sensibili). Comunicazione. Benessere animale: definizione e valutazione. Indicatori diretti (fisiologici, comportamentali e produttivi) ed indiretti (gestione e arricchimento ambientale) di benessere. Comportamenti maladattativi e loro valutazione. 

MD Gestione del comportamento riproduttivo del cane e del gatto in allevamento

Comportamento riproduttivo utile alla gestione dell'allevamento canino e felino in soggetti sani. Comportamento riproduttivo della femmina e del maschio (cane e gatto). Caratteristiche gestionali fisiologiche dell'accoppiamento, gravidanza e parto. Gestione del neonato sano.

MD Gestione dell'allevamento del cane e del gatto

Infrastrutture e attrezzature in allevamento di cani, gestione delle attività in allevamento, legislazione in materia di tutela degli animali da affezione, legislazione in materia di identificazione elettronica degli animali da affezione. Condizioni in allevamento adatte a garantire la salute ed il benessere animale, cura del cane e del gatto, il body condition score ed il fecal score. Ricerca bibliografica.

MD Management of the beahviour and well being of the dog and the cat during the breeding

Animal behavior and welfare: fundamental processes. Instinct and learning: reinforcement and punishment, classical and operant conditioning. Behaviour development (sensitive period). Dog and cat ommunication. Animal welfare: definition and evaluation. Animal-based (physiological, behavioral and productive) and indirect (environmental management and enrichment) indicators of welfare. Abnormal behaviors. 

MD Management of the reproductive beahviour of the dog and the cat during the breeding

Reproductive behavior useful for the management of canine and feline breeding in healthy subjects. Reproductive behavior of the female and male (dog and cat). Physiological management characteristics of mating, pregnancy and birth. Management of the healthy newborn.

MD Management of dog and cat breeding

Building and equipment in dog breeding, management of breeding activities, legislation on the protection of pets, legislation on electronic identification of pets. Conditions on the farm suitable for guaranteeing animal health and well-being, dog and cat care, body condition score and fecal score. Bibliographic research.

 

Dog education, instruction and training; pre-assignment and assignment counter. the process of adoption and habituation; the sporting dog; working dogs and social tasks.

Modalità di insegnamento

Il Corso Integrato si compone di 6 CFU per un totale di 72 h di cui 48 di lezione teorica e 24 di esercitazione.

Le docenti caricheranno sulla piattaforma Moodle il materiale didattico (costituito da file audio power point o audio mp4 e  materiale in forma scritta- testi o dispense, video esercitativi  anche relativi ad a.a. precedenti).

Nelle ore di esercitazione verranno svolte uscite didattiche presso allevamento, rifugio e canile/gattile.

The Integrated Course consists of 6 ECTS for a total of 72 hours, 48 of which are theoretical lectures and 24 of practical activities.

Teachers will upload teaching material (consisting of power point audio files or mp4 audio files and material in written form - texts or handouts, tutorial videos) on the Moodle platform.

The practical lectures will be held in the educational visits at kennel/shelter/breeding establishments.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

 

La valutazione dell'apprendimento verterà sia sull'avvenuta acquisizione di conoscenze che di competenze pratiche. Le competenze pratiche oggetto di tale verifica sono quelle indicate nel portfolio delle competenze e identificate dalle voci FISIO16, RIPR20 e ZOOT24-25.

COMPETENZE

La verifica dell'acquisizione delle competenze relative ai codici FISIO e RIPR verrà effettuata ESCLUSIVAMENTE durante le esercitazioni pratiche (uscita didattica). Durante le esercitazioni le studentesse e gli studenti saranno chiamati individualmente a rispondere a quesiti per risolvere situazioni presenti in allevamento/rifugio/canile-gattile. In caso di esito positivo, agli studenti e alle studentesse verrà immediatamente convalidata l'acquisizione della specifica competenza attraverso apposizione della firma del docente sul portfolio delle competenze. Per accedere all'esame non è necessario aver acquisito tutte le competenze indicate nel portfolio.

 

PROVA IN ITINERE-ESONERO

E' previsto unA PROVA IN ITINERE con valore di esonero al termine delle lezioni frontali di tutti i moduli sotto forma di presentazione orale a gruppi (max 2 studenti/studentesse, su supporto PowerPoint), su un argomento scelto dagli studenti/dalle studentesse coerente con gli obiettivi del Corso, approfondito in modo da comprendere obbligatoriamente le tematiche di TUTTI i MD che compongono il Corso Integrato.

Seguirà da parte delle docenti una domanda per ciascun MD.

Il superamento dell'esonero implicherà, ove la votazione venga accettata, il superamento dell'esame.

I CRITERI DI SVOLGIMENTO E DI VALUTAZIONE DELL' ESONERO

Lo studente/la studentessa dovrà esporre oralmente alla commissione una relazione supportata da ppt. La durata massima della presentazione sarà di 10 minuti e gli studenti/le studentesse potranno scegliere se effettuare la presentazione singolarmente o in coppia (sempre con un tempo massimo totale di 10 minuti).

Gli argomenti scelti e trattati nella presentazione dovranno essere COERENTI agli obiettivi del Corso Integrato. La bibliografia riportata nella presentazione dovrà essere ottenuta dalla consultazione di testi e/o articoli scientifici (motori di ricerca: PubMEd, CABI, Google scholar...). Lo studente dovrà indicare nel testo della presentazione la citazione abbreviata con primo autore e anno (es. Bianchi et al., 2011). Alla fine della presentazione una slide dovrà riportare per esteso ogni pubblicazione citata: titolo della pubblicazione, nome della rivista, volume, pagine.

Al termine della presentazione ogni docente potrà rivolgere al candidato 1 domanda

Lo studente/la studentessa verrà valutato/a su:

1_presentazione:

  • grafica (capacità di sintesi, numero di slides adeguato…) fino ad un massimo di 3 punti;
  • rispetto del tempo fino ad un massimo di 3 punti
  • esposizione (chiarezza e capacità di sintesi, capacità di rivolgersi alla platea…) fino ad un massimo di 4 punti;

2_argomento:

  • congruità della scelta con i temi del Corso fino ad un massimo di 3 punti;
  • completezza nell'affrontare tutti i moduli fino ad un massimo di 3 punti;
  • uso di materiale bibliografico (articoli scientifici, testi…) fino ad un massimo di 4 punti.
  • capacità di risposta alle domande della commissione. Valore fino ad un massimo di 10 punti

Al termine della presentazione, ogni docente potrà rivolgere al candidato n. 1 domanda. Il docente potrà rinunciare a fare la domanda se la presentazione è stata esaustiva e i punti a disposizione saranno conteggiati in aggiunta ai punti 1 e 2 dei punteggi di valutazione.

 

VOTAZIONE

Al termine delle presentazioni la Commissione si riunirà per stabilire le votazioni di studenti/studentesse.

Il voto finale verrà calcolato come media ponderata (in base ai CFU) dei voti della ppt e del colloquio orale. Verrà comunicato il voto finale inerente l'intero Corso e i docenti saranno a disposizione per feedback.

 

PER GLI STUDENTI/LE STUDENTESSE CHE NON SOSTERRANNO L’ESONERO

La verifica dell'apprendimento avverrà tramite presentazione di una RELAZIONE SCRITTA di contenuto tecnico-gestionale su un argomento scelto dallo studente/dalla studentessa, approfondito in modo da comprendere tematiche di TUTTI i MD che compongono il CI. Seguirà un colloquio orale, da sostenersi nello stesso appello, in cui la Commissione d'esame potrà porre al candidato/alla candidata domande relative all'argomento scelto.

Contenuto della presentazione:
Le informazioni utilizzate per la presentazione dovranno rispecchiare gli argomenti esposti dai docenti del corso. Per le informazioni riportate nella relazione ottenute dalla consultazione di testi, articoli scientifici e siti web sarà necessario che lo studente indichi nel testo della presentazione la citazione abbreviata di primo autore e anno (es. Bianchi, 2011). Alla fine della presentazione dovrà essere riportata una sezione "Bibliografia" in cui ogni pubblicazione citata venga riportata per esteso (titolo della pubblicazione, nome della rivista, volume, pagine).

L'elaborato verrà valutato in base a:

  • Argomento scelto: Approfondimento nei diversi moduli, Correttezza dei contenuti (Valore fino ad un massimo di 15 punti)
  • Capacità dello studente/dalle studentessa di disamina critica rispetto l'argomento trattato (Valore fino ad un massimo di 5 punti)
  • Capacità di scrittura (Valore fino ad un massimo di 5 punti)
  • Uso ed inserimento materiale bibliografico (Valore fino ad un massimo di 5 punt).

 

Il voto finale verrà calcolato come media ponderata (in base ai CFU) dei voti della relazione scritta e del colloquio orale.

 

Learning assessment will check both the acquisition of knowledge and of practical skills (competences) of the student. Practical skills evaluated are listed in the competences portfolio as FISIO16, RIPR20 and ZOOT24-25

COMPETENCES

Practical skills related to FISIO and RIPR codes will be tested exclusively during practical lessons (educational visit). During practical activities, the teacher will ask each student to perform the learned procedures. The teacher will thereupon certify the acquisition of the relevant skill by signing the competence portfolio to the students who will successfully perform the task.

IN ITINERE TEST

At the end of all teorethical lectures, an in itinere test could be approached by the students  under the form of an oral presentation (single or grups max 2 students, on PowerPoint support). The topic is freely chosen by the students, but ALL the Didactic Modules must be deepened.

One question per teacher at the end of ppt. 

 

PPT CRITERIA AND ASSESSMENT

The student must orally present a power point presentation to the commission (max 10 min). The students are free to decide to work alone or in pair (always max 10 min: 5 minx2).

The topics must be related to the Integrated Course. The bibliography must be obtained by Research Sources (e.g.PUB MED, CABI, google scholar….). The student must insert in the text of the ppt the citation: first author and year (eg Bianchi, 2011). At the end of the presentation, a slide must contain the follow information for each publication cited: title of the publication, name of the journal, volume, pages.

At the end of the presentation, each teacher can ask 1 question

The student will be assessed on:

1_presentation:

graphics (ability to summarize, number of slides ...) up to a maximum of 3 points;
respect of time up to a maximum of 3 points
presentation (clarity and ability to synthesize, ability to address the audience ...) up to a maximum of 4 points;
2_topic: congruity of the choice with the topics of the course up to a maximum of 3 points;
completeness in dealing with all modules up to a maximum of 3 points;
use of bibliographic material (scientific articles, texts…) up to a maximum of 4 points.
3_ ability to answer at the commission questions. Value up to a maximum of 10 points

If the presentation was exhaustive, the teacher can decide to apply the 10 points.

 

VOTE

The final mark will be calculated as the weighted average (according to the CFU) of the credits of the ppt and the oral interview.

 

EXAM (FOR STUDENTS WHO WILL NOT TAKE THE IN ITINERE TEST)

The student must submit a WRITTEN REPORT about a topic related to the Integrated Course freerly chosen by him/herself.

The written report must be sent by e-mail within the fifteenth day before the exam date.

Teachers' comments, feedback and vote to the report will be discuss by the commission in the date of the exam.
